Bangkok is an Asian city to be reckoned with.  Expanding its horizons with each passing year this cultural melting pot in Asia is fast becoming a regional powerhouse in its own right. Renowned worldwide for its pristine beaches, pastoral scenes, bustling cityscape and its happy-go-lucky attitude, Bangkok is also carving out an identity for itself that reflects its cultural diversity and richness.

Showcasing its aptitude for the arts and culture, the luminous city is also synonymous with its cinematic offering in the form of the prestigious Bangkok International Film Festival.  A celebration of the region’s cinematic prowess, this annual event has dominated the movie buff’s calendar since its inception in 2003. A full fledged film festival the likes of which has not been seen earlier in Thailand, the gala occasion comes complete with red carpet events, movie screenings, seminars and workshops by movie industry giants and of course the much sought after Golden Kinnaree Award.

Attracting a global audience, big Hollywood names to grace the event in the past have included screen legends such as Oliver Stone, Michael Douglas, Christopher Lee and Jeremy Irons while action heroes  Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme also took part in the opening ceremonies and after-parties of the festival.

Usually taking place in the SF World Cinema and Paragon Cineplex, over 80 films compete for the coveted award at the festival under two categories: the Southeast Asian Competition for regional works and the central competition which is devoted to debut and second-time directors.

The glamorous opening ceremony is another must-see as celebrities and VIP’s tread the red carpet with members of the press and screaming fans in attendance. Live performances also take place during this sensational event adding to the glitz and the panache of the festival. Themed events such as Thai Night, The Hollywood Glamorous Winter Ball Night and Director’s Night also take place during the festival.

Film fanatics will also enjoy the opportunity to trade industry secrets and learn of the practicalities of filmmaking with the impressive line-up that conducts the workshops at the festival each year. Past attendees have included Nicolas Chartier, Gregg Hale, Steven Berman, Jeremiah Hundley, Elaine Dysinger, Bey Logan, Danny Leiner and Robert M. Nau to name a few. The panellists shed light on aspects such as production services, distribution and making films that are marketable while delving deep into the process of bringing a script to life.

The awarding of the prize for the Golden Kinnaree coincides with the closing ceremony of the festival where other prominent awards such as the Career Achievement Award and the Lifetime Achievement prize are also handed out, sometimes with the attendance of the Thai royal family. A veritable treasure trove for documentary and short film lovers, the other award categories at the festival include Best ASEAN Film, Best Feature Documentary, Best Asian Short Film, Best Cinematographer, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Film while new directors are also recognized for their contributions. The Best ASEAN Film award attracts creations from Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Philippines, Burma, Vietnam and Indonesia.

A not to be missed event for all movie lovers in Asia and the world, the Bangkok International Film Festival is not only for serous moviegoers as animation fans will also not be disappointed with the festival’s line-up which included 40 animated works in its most current instalment.

When it comes to quality hotel accommodation Bangkok has to offer one cannot do better than the President Park Bangkok. Stylishly executed and comfortably furnished the hotel provides a Bangkok service apartment like no other.

Encircled by the intense Misiones rainforest, and boasting an enviable tropical climate, this city, and the surrounding area, is a haven of lush foliage, vast rivers and imposing trees.

Providing visitors with remarkable views of Brazil and Paraguay, Iguazu is built on a natural platform, making it ideal for viewing the stunning scenery in all its panoramic glory. To obtain the best views across the impressive landscape, it is well worth heading to the Argentine Landmark lookout point.

The main reason why most people travel to this enchanting city, however, is to make the journey to the magnificent Iguazu Falls. Located just 18 km away, the waterfall is one of the most remarkable of its kind on the planet and is both taller and wider than Niagara Falls. Not only that, but the entire waterfall system is comprised of a massive 275 falls, which are spread across 2.7 km of the Iguazu River.

Cited as the most extraordinary part of the waterfall, Devil’s Throat is a colossal u-shaped torrent, reaching 82 metres in height, 150 metres in width and 700 metres in length. Marking the Argentina/Brazil border, visitors to this area cannot fail to be impressed by the awesome sight as they head out onto the walkway, engulfed by the sound of pounding water and drenching mist.

Another superb location to marvel at Iguazu Falls is the National Park of Argentina; a UNESCO World Heritage Site based in Iguazu. Here it is possible to soak up the amazing sights and observe the river as it plummets to a spectacular depth of 100 metres. According to sources, the river is believed to carry 6.5 million litres of water per second at peak flow.

The National Park is also a great place to spend the day wandering around and is home to an unparalleled array of tropical plant species, birds and rare wildlife, including giant anteaters, Happy Eagles, howler monkeys and jaguars. You can additionally ride the Rainforest Ecological Train, which winds its way through seven km of forest, before hitting the waterfalls.

To observe more the area’s wildlife, the Guira Oga Centre for the Recuperation of Birds is another fascinating place to visit. Home to a variety of rescued birds, the sanctuary provides visitors with a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of different species, like vultures, toucans and parrots.

Iguazu is a simply astonishing place to visit and one that is guaranteed to leave you with a host of unforgettable memories. From the waterfalls and national park to the many remarkable sites to take in the scenery, this place is a true tropical haven. South American city Lima – the capital of extraordinary country Peru – is a city with a difference. Packed with a plethora of things to see and do, it can be difficult to pack everything you want to do into the short time you’ll spend there – which is why it’s important to plan your trip ahead so you can hit many of the best must-see attractions.

No matter what time of year you visit Lima, you can be guaranteed admirable weather – which is another reason the city is so popular amongst travellers. However, as well as the promise of sun even on the coldest of winter days, there are plenty of other sights that will tempt visitors to return time and time again.

For example, the numerous extravagant museums of Lima garner many fans. The Rafael Larco Herrera Museum boasts over 45,000 exhibits, including textiles, jewellery and ceramics from the Moche Dynasty, as well as stacks of breathtaking pre-Columbian art. The National Museum – or the Museo de la Nacion – also has many fascinating artefacts within its walls and is well worth a visit during a trip to Lima.

However, museums aren’t for everyone, and there are plenty more must-see attractions in and around this city. If checking out local culture in a more hands on way is your preferred style, why not set sail to the islands of Callao? Not only is the natural setting of a serene ocean betrayed by jagged rocks jutting out from the surface one you’ll never forget, but the island itself is an incredible sight.

You can also learn a great deal about local culture by taking a trip to the Pachacamac Pilgrimage Center, which was built around 700AD as a temple of worship. The honoured god was Pachacamac, the sun god, and the temple is still in existence even today. The site is still visited by pilgrims looking for religious experiences and is now also populated by palaces and plazas, as well as an on-site museum housing many ancient relics and several other temples that have been restored to represent their original forms.

When the sun finally fades in the sky, head out to another of Lima’s must-see attractions – a peña. These are rousing shows at criollo music clubs that include fantastic singing and dancing performances, showcasing local Peruvian music and gearing tourists up for a fantastic night on the town.

From the moment you step off your flights to Lima you can rest assured that there will always be plenty to see and do in this magical city.

One gets the idea of the planning and resources gone into developing Dubai’s coastline once having personally visited them. A sustained focus on the development of beach tourism has given birth to a world class hospitality coming up along Dubai’s seashores in roughly the last two decades or so. The bulk of this hospitality, which is a key for growing the city’s tourism, is formed by Dubai beach hotels. Among all Dubai beach hotels, Burj Al Arab has contributed most significantly in promoting the cause of city’s tourism. Its impressive photographs have been featured in various travelogues, business magazines, TV programs and in ads carrying the message of Dubai tourism, thus making Dubai holiday an attractive option for the travelers from across the world. According to industry watchers, Burj Al Arab has eaten more money in making than what it may ever return back as a business model, but it has already paid back immensely by attracting toursim inflow into the emirate.

Dubai beach hotels were known for their class and service even before the inception of Burj Al Aarb. However, the size and quality of the hospitality grew manifolds in the recent years with Dubai’s focus shifting towards tourism in a big manner. Man-made islands such as Palm islands and The World have taken the experience of Dubai holiday to the next level. Dubai’s impeccable thirst for world landmarks has given birth to some of these modern wonders. On one hand, they have brought in an unforgettable experience of leisure and recreation for the travelers from allover world, and on the other they have been instrumental in furthering Dubai’s goal of raking in tourism money.

Dubai’s land reclamation has allowed it to build not just additional hotels, but also a great many villas and furnished apartments. Those unwilling to stay at Dubai beach hotels could instead hope to be lodged in at Dubai’s villas and apartments. There is plnety to choose from the five-star yet homely villas and apartments in Dubai. Oftentimes, the travelers can avail the apportunity of staying in other facilities as well from the agents they book their Dubai holiday from.

There is a long list of Dubai beach hotels that one can choose their stay options from. This includes luxurious as well as cheap Dubai hotels. At the same time, there is more to Dubai holiday than merely staying at the city’s beach hotels, this includes taking part in adventurous and recreational activities, such as deep-sea fishing, paragliding, jet skiing, windsurfing and several other water-sports. More of it can be pursued in the interiors of Dubai, such as motor sports and desert expeditions. No doubt, Dubai has all that which makes it to be a top class tourism attraction, from resorts and hotels to malls and duty-free items, and from villas and furnished apartments to adventure sports.

How Prince William Charmed the Ladies of Australia

no comment Posted by wusa

It was like the visit of a British pop star. Women young and old swooned, marriage proposals were made and the handsome young heir to the British Throne loved it all.

He even talked about living in Sydney.

But it was more than that. It was a chance for Prince William to visit a country he last saw when he was a baby. To discover the essence of Australia’s 2 largest cities in a land that is torn between the love of the Monarchy and desire to become a republic.

He did all the things a royal should do. He made speeches telling us how wonderful we were. He shook hands with the blokes, kissed the shielas, had discussions with pollies and Aboriginal Elders and generally had a good time.

Sydney.

In Sydney he enjoyed a harbour cruise in the warm sunshine, chatted with young Australians at a harbourside barbeque and showed off his marksmanship with soldiers at Holsworthy Army Barracks.

Melbourne.

A sombre note was introduced to his Melbourne visit when he visited some of the victims of the disastrous Victorian bushfires.

After lunch he enjoyed a game of backyard cricket with the local children who coincidently were joined by Brett Lee and Matthew Hayden. His batting skills did nothing to frighten the Aussie bowlers.

The Prince got a rousing welcome from tennis fans when he made a surprise visit to the Australian Open Tennis at Melbourne Park on his final night in Australia.

And then he was gone.

After 2 days of sunshine and adulation, he returned to the depths of a freezing English winter and more royal duties.

Meanwhile, life in Sydney returned to normal. People flocked to the beaches and enjoyed Sydney’s numerous summer holiday attractions.

Down in Melbourne, they turned their attention to who would win the Australian Open Tennis and speculated on the next visit from the British.

That of course will be in November 2010 when the English Cricket Team arrives to defend the Ashes and the excitement starts all over again.

The sports loving people of Melbourne will then turn their attention to another major sporting event in their city. The famous Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Was the visit a success?

The iGeneration ladies thought so.

”We want him to be our king one day. He’s young and dishy and besides, Prince Charles is too old”, said one.

Another carried a poster with the words, “Marry me Will.”

Perhaps this optimistic lady was aware of the approach of Valentine’s Day.
