For some people a trip to France means visiting Paris, but while the capital has a lot to offer it is just the very beginning of the experiences you could have on the other side of the Channel.

Perhaps one of the most obvious reasons why so many people visit France each year is that it is big enough to offer a wide range of experiences. For example if you love taking a beach holiday during the summer there are plenty of locations to choose from.

The Cote d’Azur – otherwise referred to as the French Riviera – is one of the most popular spots of all. Situated on the southern edge of France it offers nice weather and stunning scenery, both of which are ideal for a long summer holiday.

France is also an ideal destination during the winter when you want to strap on some skis and see how good you are at tackling the downhill runs. With areas such as Chamonix, Mont Blanc and the Pyrenees to try, you could go somewhere different every year and still not leave France itself.

Don’t discount the cities either. City lovers will find plenty to enjoy when heading to France. While Paris should be near the top of your list if you have never visited it before, there are plenty of other cities worth seeing too.

A good example is Nice. Located on the Cote d’Azur it boasts beaches, restaurants, nightlife and much more besides. As such it can provide an excellent base for a holiday at any time of the year.

If you would prefer to stay inland why not give Lyon a try? The Festival of Lights takes place in early December each year, while the Place Bellecour is also worth a look. Make sure you enjoy a spot of ice skating here during the winter and study the statues you will find there too.

Another good thing about French holidays is that there are plenty of different types of accommodation you can stay in. If a country based holiday is what you are after, there are plenty of wonderful converted farmhouses all over France that will appeal to you. If you have a large family and you want a big property, a villa might suit you just as well.

At the other end of the scale there are apartments, gites and even campsites. It all depends on what kind of holiday you want and what kind of budget you are on.

In any event when you travel to France you will have plenty of sights waiting to delight you. Whether you stay for a long weekend or a full two week holiday, you cannot fail to be impressed by all that France has to offer.
